The DeKalb County Championships took part last Thursday at the Sugar Creek Golf Course. For the boys, Dunwoody and Arabia Mountain tied at 316 making them both co-champions. Dunwoody was led by Will Bentson who shot 77 while Raul Oviedo shot 78. Arabia Mountain was led by Darius Davis shot 74 to finish second overall. Noah Kuranga and Nylan Washington shot 76 and 78 and Miles Bizzle shot a 90.
Cameron Wyatt from M.L King shot an even-par71 to earn medalist honors. Lakeside-DeKalb came in third with 367 while Druid Hills came in fourth place with 402.
For the girls, Dunwoody took home the county title, breaking Lakeside’s two-year reign. The Wildcats were led by Lauren Callahan who shot 105. Olivia Vengura was right behind Callahan as she shot 118.
The county champion was Columbia’s Mariah Kuranga as she shot 83. She became a three-time county champion making her the second person in her family to accomplish that feat as he sister, Sarah, was also a three-time winner. Kayla McClendon of Chamblee was the runner-up for the second consecutive year.
