Football seeks first .500 season in 15 years, will play Dunwoody in finale

The football team’s offense has helped it become a formidable squad this season, but the defense has struggled. A 29-8 victory over Towers on Oct. 17 gave the defense some momentum heading into the regular-season finale at Dunwoody. At 4-4, beating the undefeated Wildcats won’t be easy, but scoring the upset would provide the icing on the cake for one of the Red Devils’ most successful seasons in years. They have won four games just once in the past 14 seasons, and haven’t finished over .500 since the 1993 season. … The boys cross country team placed third at the DeKalb County Championships. Nabil Hamid and Machop Ngor finished first and second, respectively, at 17:07. The girls finished a narrow second to Lakeside. Senior Allie Brown paced the Lady Red Devils with a second-place finish of 21:22. Ngor stole the show at the Last Chance Invitational on Saturday, winning the race in 16:44. The boys finished sixth. … The volleyball season ended in the first round of the state playoffs with a loss to Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, which defeated the Lady Red Devils 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22).
