DONE DEAL: GHSA votes to move to six classifications

On Monday, the Georgia High School Association approved a new plan to move member high schools (over 443) into a six-classification alignment. The GHSA voted on this in May, but narrowly passed it 26-24. The plan approved Monday included changes to percentage points of the number of schools in each class. With this added leeway, Class A will have the largest percentage of teams with 22 percent, while the other five classes will have between 14 and 17 percent of the programs in the state. … Several board members brought forth ideas and concerns about policies concerning hot-weather issues that have plagued football programs around the state recently. The GHSA will review a study in January that is currently being conducted by UGA on heat-related issues.
