Dodge County 4-Star linebacker Darrell “Duke” Johnson announces his commitment to Alabama

Dodge County 4-Star linebacker Darrell “Duke” Johnson has announced his commitment to Alabama on Wednesday night, becoming the sixth commitment to the Crimson Tide in the 2025 football recruiting cycle.

According to 247Sports, Johnson is ranked in the top-50 in the 2025 class and is rated as a top-five linebacker in the nation. Johnson is the ninth highest-rated player in the state of Georgia according to the recruiting site.

Alabama beat out Florida State, USC, Tennessee, UCF and Texas A&M for the linebackers commitment.

Johnson, an Eastman-native, has played a multitude of positions during his high school football career including positions on both sides of the ball. The 6’1, 200-pound linebacker has played positions such as defensive back, safety, running back, wide receiver and linebacker.

Competing for Dodge County in Class 2A in Georgia, Johnson totaled 103 tackles while playing all over the field for the Indians.

In his sophomore season, Johnson also played on both sides of the ball and managed to get playing time at quarterback and running back while playing defensive back on the defensive side of the ball.

“Honestly, Alabama has always been my dream school, but the fact that they have shown me and my family so much love really brought it all together for me,” said Johnson in his statement to 247Sports before he announced his commitment.

His commitment moves Alabama into the top-10 of the 2025 recruiting rankings as new Alabama football head coach, Kalen DeBoer, has landed his fourth commitment in a new era of Crimson Tide football
