The football team defeated Cherokee last Friday 14-9, moving to 2-0 on the season. The win also gave the Blue Devils their first region win of the season. Marietta will look to take the momentum from the game against the Warriors into next week’s matchup with Woodstock. … The boys cross country team finished third in the championship division of the Carrollton Invitational last Saturday. Obiandu Igwe paced the boys with a time of 16:16.57, finishing in fifth place overall. Mark Hirons (16:39.66), Frank Van Valkenburg (16:47.52) and Andrew Nelson (16:55.81) all placed in the top 25. The girls team dominated the Class 5A division at Carrollton, as seven runners finished in the top 18. They were led by Andreina Salas, who finished second overall with a time of 20:26.43. Maggie Henderson finished third and Katharine Hall finished fifth. … The softball team has not had the season they expected to thus far, but the Lady Devils do have at least one player who will be playing collegiately next year. Camille Hill has committed to attend Elon.
