The Drew Charter Eagles have dominated their schedule up to this point in the season. The Eagles’ depth is the reason the team is currently 8-1. They have two players with at least 15 goals and five players who have scored at least six goals this season.
The team has two players in the top seven scorers of 2A, according to MaxPreps. The team’s leading scorer is Williams Causey, who is third in the class in goals with 18. He is averaging two goals a game and has scored in seven of the team’s nine games. In addition to his goals, he has assisted on 14 so far this season. His 14 assists are the most in 2A. In points, he is second in the class, only behind goals leader Juan Aguirre.
The team’s second-leading scorer is Austin Smith, who has scored 15 goals this season, a mark good enough for seventh in the class. He, much like Causey, has helped distribute the ball as well, tallying eight assists so far this season, which is also good for seventh in Class 2A. Together, he and Causey are tied as the top-scoring duo in the state, alongside Shaw’s Kelvin Reyes and Andres Bonilla, with 33 goals.
The two are looking to push Drew Charter over the hump as they chase their first title. However, the Eagles are no strangers to success. They made the quarterfinals last season, going 9-5 before losing to Toombs County. They are also only three seasons removed from a state championship appearance. They have started this season just as hot as their 2022 state finals run. That year, they finished the regular season 8-1. This year, they have the potential to win up to 13 games if they win out. Two of those five remaining games are rematches against Columbia and South Atlanta, games the Eagles previously won by a combined score of 20-0.
