Football splits region contests; volleyball reaches second round of state tournament

The football team has looked to improve this season, but turnovers have done the Bulldogs in during losses to tough competition in Region 6-AA. Quarterback Trumon Jefferson and Co. were unable to find any consistency in a 43-6 loss to Westminster, which had lost just one game and is one of the top teams in Class 2A. The Bulldogs got a win last Friday over winless Avondale, 47-21. The Bulldogs will have to spur an upset if they want to win again. A strong Blessed Trinity teams awaits on Friday, and they face Lovett on Nov. 7. … The girls cross country team clocked in at eighth place at the Wesleyan Invitational on Oct. 18. Alex Wechsler was 30th overall with a time of 22:33. The boys checked in with a 10th-place finish. … The volleyball team beat Our Lady of Mercy in the first round of the Class 2A State Tournament, but couldn’t get by Savannah Country Day in the second round, losing 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-17, 25-16).
