Georgia has taken a 45-30 lead into the half against rival Florida today at Stegeman Coliseum. Trey Thompkins had his usual solid half, as he hit 6-9 from the field and leads both teams with 14 points. Travis Leslie added nine for the Dawgs. Eight different Bulldogs have scored as Mark Fox is trying to save the legs of his starters after the draining overtime game at Vandy on Thursday night.
The Dawgs jumped ahead 29-17 with about seven minutes remaining after a 14-3 run keyed by an Abuka Anyaorah three and a technical on Florida coach Billy Donovan. However, the Gators would tighten things up after an 11-2 run that ended with the score 31-28 Dawgs.
But Georgia would embark on another scoring run, this one 14-2 ending with a Thompkins three just before the half.
Ricky McPhee was rung up for a technical in the half by referee Antinio Petty. McPhee had complained about a previous foul and then a non-call after he missed a three. The Dawgs are definitely not getting the calls this season, but showing up the refs is not going to help things. Leave that to coach Fox.
WHERE ARE THE STUDENTS…
Once again, the reserved seats have been sold out but there are around 1,000 student seats that remain unfilled as well as several lower level seats that are in the season ticket section. UGA needs to look into why those season tickets go un-used for even the biggest home games.
The Georgia students have got to do a better job of filling their section. The students that show up do a great job of supporting the team, but the number of them for a Saturday home game against a major rival is a lot less than it should be.
