After a hard week of practice that included two scrimmages, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt rewarded his team with a trip to the school’s Ramsey center for a pool day.
Going to “the Ramsey”, in the words of the Bulldogs, has become a tradition for Georgia during Richt’s tenure. The event usually takes place in August before the team’s first game as a reward for the players’ hard work. The Dawgs did not have a Ramsey day before the season last year but instead went to the pool during the bye week last season.
For the past three weeks of fall camp, the team had been lobbying their head coach for the chance to go to the Ramsey center. Richt noted multiple times in his post-practice press conferences that the team was humming the Ramsey song in order to change the coach’s mind. From these conferences, it was assumed Richt seemed focused on getting his team ready for the upcoming tilt against Buffalo.
However, it seems now that his stance on going to the Ramsey was just Richt exhibiting an excellent poker face.
The uproar caused from the player’s learning of the news was enough to shake the building that houses the school’s athletic association. Within minutes, numerous players sent out tweets detailing their happiness. The team had no practice, making it a good day to be a Georgia Bulldog.
Mark Richt made all of his players jump off the triple high dive while at the Ramsey. Cornelius Washington and freshman John Taylor were notable players that had to be pressured into jumping. Taylor had to use a life jacket when jumping because the young lineman did not know how to swim.
