Daily Dive: Walton introduces Levi Brown as new offensive coordinator

The Walton Raiders introduced Levi Brown to be their new offensive coordinator on Friday. Coach Brown replaces the Raiders’ former play caller Michael Copely, who departed after one season at the school to take a coordinator and quarterback coaching position at Wayne County High School. Coach Copely arrived at Walton last year after former offensive coordinator Tyler Jones left to become head coach at Cambridge. Walton’s offensive coordinator before Jones was Chris Hirschfield, who also went on to become a head coach at East Paulding after his time with the Raiders.

Now, coach Brown arrives from River Ridge—where he called plays for the Knights and served on the staff of Mike Collins. In additional to coaching at River Ridge, Brown was formerly the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Valdosta State in addition to serving on the staffs at Troy and Faulkner University. As a player, Brown was a standout quarterback that transferred to Troy University after playing at Richmond from 2005-06. After redshirting during the 2007 season, Brown started in 2008 with the Trojans and produced many school records. In 2009, he broke the Troy and Sunbelt Conference record by passing for 4,254 yards. Additionally, he finished second in the nation in passing yards in 2009, and Brown was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. Brown was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft and later sighed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League.

Coach Brown released a statement on Friday talking about his new opportunity with the Raiders and what he is looking forward to at Walton and teaming up with head coach Daniel Brunner.

“I want to start by expressing my sincere gratitude for River Ridge football. It’s hard to leave a place where I had grown so close to so many players and coaches, and because of that this was not an easy decision, but I have stepped down as OC at River Ridge and will now be at Walton High School as the Offensive Coordinator. I am grateful for Coach [Mike] Collins, the players, assistant coaches and admin at River Ridge and I know that many of my friendships from there will continue. However, I’, also very excited for the opportunity at Walton and look forward to building new relationships there. I’m appreciative of coach Brunner and everyone in the Walton family for trusting me to do this job at a high level. In my short time, I’ve been impressed with everything from admin, to coaches, to the players. We will have something special and I’m looking forward to it! Go Raiders.”
