Daily Dive: Jaris Sinkfield sparks Thomson with four-touchdown first half

Thomson hosted Swainsboro Thursday night in the first meeting between the two programs since 2013 and cruised to a 56-7 victory. The 49-point margin was the largest Bulldogs’ victory in the 32 all-time meetings between the teams and Thomson improved to 3-2 with its third-straight victory. Running back Anthony Jeffrey had a big night with 13 carries for 131 yards and three touchdowns. This performance came just six days after the senior took a career-high 36 carries for 223 yards in Thomson’s 20-13 win over Grovetown.

The Bulldogs’ success running the ball gained them the offensive edge and junior Jaris Sinkfield was able to provide not only an offensive spark, but also major plays in the other two phases as he finished with a brilliant four-touchdown performance. Offensively, Sinkfield finished with 62 rushing yards and a touchdown off of four carries and two catches for 39 yards and one receiving touchdowns. Sinkfield also added a 47-yard interception returned for a touchdown and led special teams with a 65-yard punt return touchdown.

Jeffrey—a Kent State-commit—capped a five-play drive with a 20-yard touchdown run and Sinkfield’s first touchdown of the game came on a touchdown reception from Markevion Jones to give Thomson a 14-0 lead. The defense stopped Swainsboro’s next possession and Sinkfield returned the punt 65 yards for the score. On the following drive, Sinkfield added a 29-yard touchdown run for his third score of the game and put the Bulldogs up 28-0.

Jeffrey returned to the endzone to make it 35-0 and Swainsboro finally got on the board to make it 35-7. The Tigers forced Thomson to punt and regained possession, but Sinkfield jumped a slant route and returned his interception 47 yards for the score—his fourth touchdown of the half. Sinkfield forced a running clock as the lead grew to 42-7. In the second half, Jeffrey completed his own hat-trick on a 56-yard touchdown run and sophomore Aiden Robertson capped the scoring with Thomson’s second interception returned for a touchdown for the final tally. Thomson will head into its bye week with a 3-2 record and will host Laney (3-1) in two weeks for its Region 4-AA opener.
