Daily Dive: Carrollton visits Parker (AL) for a Week 6 border battle

The University of Georgia will travel to Alabama next weekend for one of the biggest football games of the year and there is another major border battle to watch tonight that will pin Georgia’s No. 1 ranked Carrollton Trojans against against Birmingham-based powerhouse Parker out of Alabama in a battle of unbeaten teams. Carrollton is coming off its most impressive win of the season and that was its 45-16 home win over Gainesville. The Trojans opened up the season with a 24-14 road win over Woodward Academy and have enjoyed home field for the past four weeks. Now, Carrollton will make a 115-mile trip West to visit the Thundering Herd in a Nationally-televised ESPN 2 showcase.

There are 16 prospects rated as three stars or higher and both rosters have eight of them. For Carrollton, five-star quarterback Julian Lewis is averaging four touchdowns per game and is producing the highest completion percentage of his high school career with a deep cast of playmakers—including four-star junior Ryan Mosley. Defensively, cornerback Shamar Arnoux is one of the highest rated seniors in the state and also one of the top uncommitted prospects with his four-star status. Arnoux is flanked in the secondary by Class of 2026 four-star safety Zelus Hicks and Alabama-commit Doran Barney.  In the trenches, Carrllton’s offensive line boasts junior four-star interior lineman Zykie Helton.

Carrollton and Parker are both aiming to make title runs this season and Parker came up just short during a 12-win campaign last season that ended to eventual Class 6A state champ Clay-Chalkville. The top-rated Parker prospect is five-star cornerback and Ohio State-commit Na’eem Offord. The Thundering Herd will not shy away from using Offord’s elite talent on the offensive side of the ball and he had 10 offensive touchdowns last season in addition to his five interceptions. The Parker defense also has Auburn four-star commit Jourdin Crawford and Vodney Cleveland and at safety will feature the duo of Miami-commit Timothy Merrit and Georgia State-commit Joseph Holt.

How the team’s handle the spotlight could be a factor and Carrollton has the upper-hand in that department. The Trojans have already played on ESPN this season in its 24-14 road win over Woodward Academy. As for Parker, tonight will be its first-ever nationally televised game.
