With four colorful brackets, 32 teams and tons of top talent, the inaugural Craig Sager Memorial Basketball Tournament got going on Saturday at Dacula High School. We’ll update the post as all the scores and stats come in.
The Morgan County boys outlasted Therrell in an exciting overtime game 84-78, as Alec Woodard had 31 points and Tyrin Lawrence had 25 points for Morgan according to Tai Young (@TaiYoungHoops), reporting for HoopSeen (@hoopseen). Deandre Brown poured in 36 points for Therrell in the loss.
Dominique Duke had 19 points in a thriller between the Walnut Grove and Northview boys, as WGHS held on 57-56. Duke hit one of two free throws for the winning point at the end of the game, and Carter Selman (13 pts) gave WGHS a one-point lead with 20 seconds left, per Walnut Grove’s team Twitter.
Also per Tai Young, Jaylen Bussey of Discovery had 17 points with four three-pointers in his team’s 57-49 win over Carver (Ala.). Kalu Ezikpe also had 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Samad Hines (@CoachHines28) of Prep Hoops (@PrepHoops) reports that Hunter Nobis hit the game-winning free throw in Harrison’s 69-68 win over New Creation Christian, a strong GICAA school in Henry County.
Young notes that Buford guard David Viti (Georgia Southern commit) led the Wolves with 18 points in their 77-45 win over Lakeside-DeKalb.
Reco Hallmon (@GameElite2019) reports that, in the final game, Dacula’s Brenden Tucker had 23 points and four rebounds and got to the free-throw line 15 times in the Hawks’ 73-61 win over Harris County. Mekhail Bethea had 17 points and four rebounds.
