Countdown to the TOUR Championship presented by PGA TOUR Superstore

The Deutsche Bank Championship this past weekend provided another remarkable display of golf, as Steve Stricker was able to take over Tiger Woods’ top spot. While it was only a one-spot jump for the young American, it is still a great feat for him to now be sitting at the top of the leaderboard, not to mention the fact that this victory guarantees Stricker no less than a number-two seed heading into the final showdown at East Lake.

Padraig Harrington also had an outstanding performance over the weekend as he jumped from 14th to seventh in the overall rankings. Harrington had the opportunity to climb higher on the leaderboard and could have won the Deutsche Bank, however, he shot a double-bogey on one hole that cost him big.  Even so, it is quite impressive that he should be ranked so high as he did not even make the cut for East Lake last year, and it will be quite interesting to see how he handles the pressure.

With the field of players decreasing with each consecutive tournament due to cutoffs, the anticipation for the TOUR Championship is at its highest. There are 70 golfers left after last weekend, and there will only be 30 after the BMW Championship in Lemont, Ill., this weekend. These 30 players will advance to the TOUR Championship where the “Chase for the FedEx Cup” will conclude. There are a lot of talented golfers in the running for the top spots, so be sure to keep an eye out. More on the Tournament later this week.
