The anticipation for the PGA TOUR Championship continued to build through this past weekend’s tremendous display of talent on the course at the FedEx Cup. Tiger Woods maintained his lead in points with a total of 4,381 after finishing 18 on Sunday, and is being trailed by Steve Stricker who has 3,105 points thus far.
The big name, however, that everyone cannot stop talking about is Heath Slocum, who played textbook golf all weekend at the Barclays. It was highly unexpected that he would earn first place overall being that he missed the cut for the Wyndham Championships, making him the 124th seed out of 125 golfers who qualified for that tournament. Apparently being the second to last seed to make the cut does not preclude one from excelling; Heath Slocum maintained his composure the entire weekend and made countless clutch shots as he ran neck and neck with some of the best names in the game including Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker and Ernie Els. What is even more impressive is that the amazing victory he claimed was earned by sinking a crucial 20-foot putt for par on the 18th green, the same green that Tiger Woods had earlier that day missed a 7-footer. It looks as if Tiger is going to have to tweak his game on the greens a bit if he wishes to maintain the lead in the “Chase for the FedEx Cup,” but for now he still remains at a comfortable No. 1 position.
As for this coming weekend, the tournament will continue at the Deutsche Bank Championship, which is to be played at the TPC Boston in Norton, Mass. We will have more on the lead-up to the TOUR Championship later this week.
