Walton’s three late touchdown runs proved the difference as the Raiders defeated Kell 35-28 in Corky Kell Classic presented by Atlanta & North Georgia Building Trades Council. In the end, a 29-yard touchdown run by Braylen Stokes gave the Raiders the lead for good.
Trailing 28-16 after a Kell touchdown run by its star sophomore David Mbadinga, the Raiders mounted a charge beginning with a 7-yard touchdown run by Braylen Stokes with 3:01 left in the third quarter. The Walton defense held Kell scoreless through the end of the third quarter and early in the fourth quarter, Zak Rozsman broke free on a 25-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 28.
Walton opened scoring on a 77-yard touchdown run by Kenny Djaha with 6:26 left in the first quarter. It expanded the lead with a 38-yard field goal by Conor Cummins. Kell then took the lead on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Corbin LaFrance to Jaylon Brown and a short run by Jamal Hill. Cummins connected on a 45-yard field goal at the end of the second half to enter the locker room down 14-13. Kell regained control on a 36-yard pass from LaFrance to Hill to lead 21-13.
Cummins’ steady leg kept Walton in it with a 28-yard field goal with 6:14 left in the third quarter. Kell answered with Mbadinga’s run with 5:54 left in the third quarter, but Walton’s three touchdown runs late put the game away.
Rozsman was 9-of-21 passing for 130 yards and one touchdown and rushed nine times for 49 yards and a touchdown. Freshman quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski was 3-for-3 for 58 yards. Stokes had 15 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Djaha had nine carries for 76 yards and three receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown.
LaFrance was 21-of-33 passing for 271 and two touchdowns and had six carries for 65 yards. Mbadinga made 12 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown and had six receptions for 32 yards. Hill made eight catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.
