Comets again jump out early, but fall to South Forsyth 30-18

The football team set out on the road for South Forsyth seeking the team’s first victory of the year. Just one week after blowing an early lead to Norcross, the Comets once again lost an early lead en route to a 30-18 defeat. The Comets jumped out on their first possession with a Griffen Thomas field goal, but South Forsyth would rally late. Comet quarterback Mike Polascik (18-for-26, 191 yards) left the game with an injury and his status for Friday’s game against Meadowcreek (7:30 p.m.) was not known at press time. … One silver lining to last week’s loss to Norcross was Arquavious Crane’s presence at the game. Head coach John Small said that Crane would be on the sideline at every home game this season. “Just seeing his face every day is just special,” Small said. … The softball team received a strong effort from pitcher Rachel Ludick but could not overcome three runs from a plucky Norcross squad. Ludick struck out two Blue Devils but allowed all three runs as the Comets lost 3-0. Heather Smith had two hits for the Comets, and Tara Hartnett and Sam Harris also contributed with hits in the loss.
