Colquitt’s Jackson headed south

Colquitt County’s Octavius Jackson pledged to Florida Friday over offers from Kentucky, Marshall, UCF, USF and Vanderbilt. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound offensive tackle prospect told ESPN.com “The deciding factor was my family. I would rather be close so my family can see me play, rather than far away where they won’t get a chance to see me,” Jackson said. “It’s only two hours away, so my family can come see my games if they want to. It’s only a two-hour drive. It’s not like its 10 hours. So I can come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas if I want to. And there’s nothing like having your family to support you during your four years of college.” When he’s not pancaking defenders on the field, Jackson is babysitting Colquitt County coach Rush Propst’s kids.

Dublin’s Jalen Wells committed to South Alabama Sunday. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound defensive end camped at the Mobile school in July and was offered almost immediately. Last year for the Fighting Irish, Wells made 45 tackles, three sacks and scored a touchdown.

On Friday, former Westover-Albany star Trenton Brown decided on Georgia for his next college stop. The mammoth 6-foot-9, 330-pound offensive tackle from Georgia Military College will now have three years to play two seasons for the Bulldogs. Brown also had offers from Florida, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. … Tucker QB Juwaan Williams didn’t commit anywhere, but has narrowed his list down to five, according to the AJC. His final five are Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame, Oregon and Vanderbilt. Williams is being recruited by all five of them as a wide receiver.
