The Atlanta Falcons, the Georgia World Congress Center Authority and Levy Restaurants, along with Russell Athletic, hhgregg, AirTran Airways, PGA Tour Superstore, USA Football, Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation and the Atlanta Falcons Physical Therapy Centers, hosted the fourth annual Salute to High School Football Luncheon presented by Russell Athletic for GHSA-affiliated head football coaches Saturday, December 10.
The luncheon, held in the Georgia Ballroom of the Georgia World Congress Center, featured a keynote address from former Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler and remarks from President & CEO Rich McKay, General Manager Thomas Dimitroff and Head Coach Mike Smith.
The Falcons gave away several prizes before presenting the 2011 Divisional Coach of the Year Awards, the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award and the Warrick Dunn Captain in the Community of the Year Award. Coach of the Year awards were presented to the top high school football coaches in Class 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A.

Class 1A-Donald Chumley- Savannah Christian Preparatory High School
Class 2A-Jess Simpson- Buford High School
Class 3A-Gary Varner- Allatoona High School
Class 4A-Bryan Way- Warner Robins High School
Class 5A- Michael Carson- Martin Luther King, Jr. High School
Lifetime Achievement Award – Dave Hunter – Brookwood High School
Warrick Dunn Captain in the Community of the Year Award – Cameron Sutton – Jonesboro High School
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the coach who has significantly impacted high school football in the state of Georgia. The Warrick Dunn Captain in the Community of the Year Award recognized an outstanding varsity high school football student-athlete in the state of Georgia that demonstrated strong leadership skills both on and off the field.
During the spring of 2012, Coach Smith and his Falcons staff will host a special football clinic for high school coaches at the club’s state-of-the-art training facility in Flowery Branch, GA.
