Class A-Division I Blog: Model baseball wins 20th game

The Model High School baseball team has become the first program during the 2025 season to win 20 games as the Blue Devils have gone 20-1 through their first 21 games this season.

Following a 20-12 record a season ago, the Blue Devils have already hit their win total from a season ago with 10 games remaining on their regular season schedule.

The Blue Devils currently sit at No. 4 in the latest Score Atlanta Baseball rankings from Craig Sager II and have continued to handle business on the field this season.

Model currently sits at the top of a competitive Region 6-Class ADI in front of teams such as Pepperell, Heard County, Bremen, Haralson County, Darlington and Temple with a perfect 9-0 record in region play.

Through its first 20 games this season, Model has shut out its opponents three different times as they have done it to Murray County twice, followed by Temple a couple weeks ago.

While their defense has helped them win games, their offense sure hasn’t skipped a beat, scoring over 10 runs in eight of the Blue Devils first 20 games this season. The Blue Devils also managed to score 20 runs in one game this season against Coosa where they defeated the Eagles, 22-1.

After last season’s first round exit, the Blue Devils have a chip on their shoulder as they are firing on all cylinders at the right time.

Brandon Patch’s Model Blue Devils are made up of a handful of returning players that have had great experience as they return eight starters from a season ago.

Seniors Cooper Dean and Jared Terhune are some of the top infielders in the state and are able to hang in there at the plate to provide some offense for the Blue Devils. A pair of 2025 UTL guys Ripken West and Hudson Latimer command the outfield to provide some reliable talent in the field.

Senior catcher Ryan Camp has been exceptional behind the plate and gives the Blue Devils some power in their lineup for their offense.

Reece Grodeman serves as the teams top pitcher as well as providing valuable at bats for the Blue Devils on the offensive side of the ball. Grodeman is committed to continue his baseball career at Georgia Southern.

Along with the many players on the team that have experience, the young Blue Devils have grown in their roles as well. Sophomores Brantley Patch and Copeland Ayers have been names to watch for a while and are finally bursting onto the scene for the Blue Devils.

The Model Blue Devils will be back in action on Tuesday, April 1 with a series against Pepperell.
