Charity golf event to benefit local trainer, brain injury research

Remember Darius Miller? If so, it’s no surprise; Miller was extremely popular and well liked in the local community. For those who don’t know Miller, perhaps you’ll remember the story of the celebrity trainer who was beaten within an inch of his life in Midtown two years ago by a group of men calling themselves 01 Entertainment. Miller was brutalized by the group because they took exception to Miller asking them not to photograph the women he was escorting to a Midtown parking lot. Now, Miller, who suffered brain damage in the attack, lives with his mother in a vegetative state and his alleged attackers, all but one, live freely in society.

The price of medical bills and care for Miller is high. Fortunately, Miller has great friends who have formed The Darius Miller Foundation. “We have established The Darius Miller Foundation in Darius’ honor, which will provide financial and other support for brain injury survivors and their families,” said Chairman John McCorvey III. ”Creating a foundation in his honor will also enable us to assist in the research and development of treatment and rehabilitation of brain injury survivors.”

The golf tournament was originally designed to aid Darius and his family, but since its original conception it has evolved into much more. NFL All-Pro and current Vice Chairman of the Foundation, Randall McDaniel, speaks highly of Miller’s giving nature and friendly spirit. “I’ve seen the giving side of Darius, how he’s reached out to people to give a helping hand,” he said. “No person was a stranger to him and that’s the spirit we want to put behind the foundation, that giving spirit.”
