Some of the nation’s top basketball stars will take part in Centennial’s Hoops In Overdrive Shootout tournament, which begins Saturday and continues through Tuesday. Georgia powers such as Shiloh, Arabia Mountain, Centennial, Milton, Alcovy, North Gwinnett, Jonesboro and Albany will take part as will national powerhouses such as Northeast (Fla.), Fort. Walton Beach (Fla.), Quality Education (N.C.) and Lee (Ala.).
Fans will get a chance to see North Florida Educational Institute (Fla.) five-star prospect Solomon Poole, who has signed with Georgia Tech, as well as, future UGA point guard J.J. Frazier out of Faith Baptist Christian. Ahmed Hill out of Aquinas is one of the top juniors in the nation.
Perhaps the biggest player to watch is Shiloh’s Trayvon Reed, a 6-foot-11 star who is one of the top 50 players in the nation.
This is the fifth year of the tournament, and in the event’s first four years, more than 250 players have gone on to Division I scholarships. Four players have gone on to become NBA lottery picks.
The event kicks off with Shiloh facing Luella Saturday at 6:30 p.m., followed by Arabia Mountain facing Centennial.
Monday sees Milton facing St. Jude’s (Ala.) to begin the action at 11:30 a.m., followed by Faith Baptist against Legacy Charter (S.C.), Alcovy vs. Lee (Ala.), North Gwinnett facing North Florida Educational Institute, Albany squaring off against Northeast (Fla.), Carver-Montgomery (Ala.) facing Jonesboro and Quality Education (N.C.) meeting Faith Baptist (Fla.).
On New Year’s Day, North Florida Educational Institute meets Newnan at 11:00 a.m., then Albany meets Luella, Jonesboro faces Northeast (Fla.), Morgan County faces Fort. Walton Beach (Fla.), Faith Baptist (Fla.) faces Legacy Charter (S.C.), Centennial hosts Rockdale County, Quality Education (N.C.) squares off against Faith Baptist (Ga.) and Shiloh wraps up the event against Aquinas.
