After one year at the helm of the Cedar Grove football program, Roderick Moore and the school have parted ways, leaving the Saints after a 3-7 season, according to Georgia High School Football Daily.
Cedar Grove finished the season 3-3 in its region and were bounced in the first round in the playoffs for the first time since 2012, losing to Harlem 27-13.
The seven losses for the Saints are the fewest the program has had since the 2003 season where they finished with 10.
Moore was hired in March of 2024, after previous head coach and two-time state champion at Cedar Grove, John Adams left the Saints coming off of a state championship victory and joined Dell McGee and the new Georgia State staff on their defense coaching up the Panthers defensive backs.
Moore was an outside hire for the Saints as he had previously been a head coach at both McNair and Redan and was recently coaching at Dougherty as the team’s offensive coordinator before being hired by Cedar Grove.
Following a 2023 Class 3A state championship, the Moore-led Saints finished with three wins, their lowest win total since 2020 under-then head coach, Miguel Patrick. Patrick and the Saints won three state championships in four seasons (2016, 2018, 2019) before following it up with a three win season in 2020, his final year in the program.
Under Adams for three seasons, the program won two state championships and never finished with less than 10 wins while leading the Saints to a state championship appearance every year he was at the head of the program.
Since 2010, the Saints football team has had five different head coaches and have made the playoffs in every season, not skipping a beat.
In a program that has won five state championships including its first one in 2016, Cedar Grove will be a highly sought-after job as they will look for someone to bring the Saints back to the big stage.
