Carrollton QB Julian Lewis announces commitment to Colorado on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’

The long-lasting recruiting saga of Carrollton quarterback, Julian Lewis is finally over after the Trojans signal caller announced that he has committed to Deion Sanders and the University of Colorado. The 6-foot, 185-pound quarterback is rated as the No. 35 player in the Class of 2025 and the No. 6 quarterback in the class according to 247Sports.

Lewis had been committed to the USC Trojans under head coach Lincoln Riley since August of 2023, but announced his decommitment from the program Sunday evening. Lewis announced his commitment on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ Thursday morning on ESPN.

“I am excited to learn under Coach Shurmur and Coach Prime, I don’t think there is a better person to learn how to read defenses and coverages than Coach Prime,” Lewis said. “Just trying to grow mentally is my big thing.”

The Colorado-commit was originally supposed to be in the 2026 recruiting cycle but announced his reclassification to the Class of 2025 in mid-January. The senior quarterback has led the Trojans to an undefeated 11-0 record and has the keys to an offense that has scored over 520 points on the season. Lewis holds a record of 36-3 in his time as a Carrollton Trojan and will look to build on that record this postseason.

This season, Lewis has totaled over 2,800 yards while throwing for 40 passing touchdowns on a 78% completion percentage, leading the Trojans past the first round for the third time in his high school career. In his three seasons at Carrollton, he has led the program to three-straight double digit win seasons including a state championship appearance in his freshman season against Caleb Downs’ Mill Creek team that handed him one of his three high school losses.

While Lewis’ high school football career will end a year short, the quarterback was awarded multiple accolades throughout his high school career. The future Buffalo was named as the 2023-24 Gatorade Georgia Football Player of the Year and the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year a year ago while also becoming a two-time Region Offensive Player of the Year. This year, Lewis has been included in the inaugural Mr. Georgia Football watchlist along with a handful of some of the best recruits from the state of Georgia. Lewis and the Trojans have been able to remain unbeaten, but they face their toughest challenge yet this week against a talented Valdosta team led by Georgia-commit Todd Robinson in the second round for the second-consecutive season.
