Seven champions were crowed at the GHSA Team Dual Wrestling Championships at the Macon Centreplex on Saturday afternoon. In the state’s highest class, Camden County captured its sixth-straight duals title — the past four championships in Class AAAAAAA and 2015-16 in Class AAAAAA. North Hall captured its second championship and first since a 2018 AAA title while ending Jefferson’s 18-year reign as duals champion.
In Class AAAAAA, Pope defeated Richmond Hill to capture its first title since a streak of three-straight from 2012-2014. In Class AAAAA, Woodland-Cartersville successfully defended its 2019 and dropped just four matches in its victory over Veterans. In Class AAAA, Woodward Academy defended its 2019 title against Gilmer.
Chattooga County had a big finals Saturday as two schools – Trion in Class A and Chattooga in Class AA – both won each program’s first title. Trion’s victory over Commerce ended the Tigers streak of six-straight team duals championships. Chattooga’s victory over Social Circle ended the Redskins streak of five team duals titles.
By class, here’s how the finals played out.
Class AAAAAAA: Camden defeated Collins Hill 35-27 with victories from Garrett Gaston (220 pounds), Matt Morton (106), Riley Dahlgren (113), Nathan Orum (120), Charles Morton (145), Nathaniel Santos (152), Omega Clark (182) and Cody Herrin (195). Camden’s path to the finals went through Parkview (74-0), Mountain View (58-15) and West Forsyth (59-10) in the semifinals. The victory marked Camden’s seventh duals title. In the consolation bracket, West Forsyth defeated Archer 34-25 to take third.
Class AAAAAA: Pope beat Richmond Hill 30-24 with victories from Aidan Karpinski (106), Joey Robinson (120), Max Druholt (126), Alex Hearn (138), Patrick Haskin (145), Connor Weeks (152), Andrew Barner (170) and Dylan Moss (195). Pope’s path to the finals went through Valdosta (48-21), Brunswick (51-9) and Creekview (28-26) in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket finals, Creekview beat Cambridge 35-30 to capture third place.
Class AAAAA: Woodland-Cartersville beat Veterans handedly 47-15 with victories from Jaxon Smith (182), Brian Collum (170), Colby Cochran (160), Caleb Henson (152), Caden McCrary (145), Randy Buchanan (132), William Bishop (126), Carson Bailey (113), Beau Jernigan (285) and Bryce Shedd (220). Woodland’s path through the bracket went through Miller Grove (81-0), Walnut Grove (70-12) and Ola (62-6) in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket finals, Buford beat Ola 48-21 to capture third place.
Class AAAA: Woodward Academy defeated Gilmer 44-24 with victories from Jayline Tate (220), Colby McBride (106), Nick Masters (132), Michael Kilic (138), Vincent Mannella (145), McCoy Pace (152), Ben Valdes (160), Mathew Singleton (170) and Malachi Wiley (182). Woodward defeated West Laurens (55-24), Cartersville (45-30) and Blessed Trinity (50-28) in the semifinals. In the consolation bracket finals, Blessed Trinity beat Northwest Whitfield 46-21 to finish third.
Class AAA: North Hall’s 49-18 victory over Sonoraville was led by victories from Seth Carlton (220), Bowie Eisenberg (285), Dawson Thompson (106), Christian Contreras (113), Jacob Pedraza (120), Damon Cambell (132), Jack Whitmire (138), Cody Smith (145), Dalton Battle (152), Hunter Adams (160) and Logan Hawthorne (182). After a bye in the first round, North Hall defeated Pike County (54-14) and Jackson County (48-24) to earn its finals berth against Sonoraville. In the consolation bracket final, Jackson County beat Jefferson 32-29 to take third place.
Class AA: Chattooga defeated Social Circle 59-21 with victories from Ty Veatch (195), Devon Heroch (182), Jacoby Cottrell (170), Rowan Burdick (152), Mason Sterner (145), Jason Malone (138), Wes Conley (120), Griffin Jarrett (113), Luis Medina (285) and Alex Mears (220). After a bye in the first round, Chattooga defeated Bremen (59-24) and Elbert County (45-27) to earn its berth in the finals. In the consolation bracket finals, Elbert County beat Toombs County (37-33) to take third place.
Class A: Trion’s 46-25 victory over Commerce was led by victories from Clay Baker (285), Seth Huskins (106), Daegan Vaughan (113), Conner Deparlier (126), Bryce James (132), Logan Eller (145), Lincoln Maddux (152), David Paiz (160) and Bladyn Bowman (170). After a bye in the first round, Trion defeated Landmark Christian (66-6) and Mount Pisgah (42-22) to earn its berth in the finals. In the consolation bracket final, Holy Innocents’ took third place with a 34-33 victory over Mount Pisgah.
