Bulldogs smell upset in first half, but fall to nation’s top team

The football team led Byrnes (S.C.), the top team in the country according to USA Today, in the Progressive Football Challenge last Friday at halftime, but couldn’t hold on as the Bulldogs lost their opener 36-21 in front of over 8,000 fans. Michael Tamburo began the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 1-yard touchdown after Byrnes botched a punt. Cordero Dixon put the Bulldogs up 13-9 at the half with an 83-yard kickoff return for a score. The Bulldogs scored once more in the fourth quarter when Tyler Jarry reached the end zone from one yard away. The Bulldogs will travel to Brookwood this Friday at 7:30 p.m. … The softball team defeated Peachtree Ridge 1-0 in eight innings last Thursday. In the top of the eighth, Kacey Martin threw out a runner at home and then went on to drive in the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning. The Bulldogs (8-2-1) also beat Central Gwinnett 8-2 on Wednesday by a score of 8-2. Jennifer Gray picked up the victory on the mound. The team hosts Northview this Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
