Georgia forward Trey Thompkins will skip the NBA and play for head coach Mark Fox again next season. The Lithonia native’s decision was revealed at the Georgia Tipoff Club’s end-of-season banquet at the Athens Country Club tonight. Thompkins’ declaration came during the proceedings and shocked an unexpecting crowd of 200 at the event.
“Don’t worry, Coach, I’m coming back,” said Thompkins during Fox’s speech at the banquet. Fox mentioned to the crowd that he was not sure if Thompkins was coming back. Thompkins then made his announcement.
"God bless you, Trey," Fox responded.
The unanimous All-SEC selection will join several remaining Bulldog contributors from last year’s squad, including fellow sophomore Travis Leslie, who was also considering going pro.
Shortly after the Bulldog’s season ended, Leslie declared that he would return for his junior year as well.
A big factor in both players’ decisions to return is the potential for the team to improve drastically on their 5-11 SEC mark from 2010.
"This team can be great," said Thompkins.
