BULLDOG BEAT: Dawgs will play Boise St. in Dome to open 2011

Georgia will play Boise St in the 2011 Chick-fil-a Kickoff Game in the Georgia Dome on Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on either ESPN or ABC.

The Bulldogs originally had schedule Louisville for a home game on that date and again in 2012 in Louisville. But the Cardinals agreed to cancel the series and will play North Carolina instead.

Ole Miss had originally scheduled Boise St next year, but decided to cancel that game. The two programs will play, however, in 2014 in that year’s Chick-fil-a Kickoff Game.

“We are excited to participate in the 2011 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta against Boise State,” said UGA Director of Athletics Greg McGarity. “We are very appreciative of the efforts made by ESPN and the Chick-fil-A Bowl to create this opportunity, and we look forward to competing against one of the nation’s elite teams. We know our fans will certainly enjoy this experience in the Georgia Dome to start the 2011 season.”

McGarity also cited playing on a national stage, the excitement of the game and the opportunity to have 13 home games between 2011 and 2012 as well as the neutral-site game in the Georgia Dome. There will be no return trip to Boise as this game is considered a neutral site.

McGarity also said UGA will announce the ticket situation on Monday. He said mentioned that it will be set up similar to how the Florida game in Jacksonville is set up.

Georgia is in talks with an unnamed opponent to replace Louisville in 2012. McGarity said the opponent is a non-BCS program and will not require a return game. The opponent will be announced within 2-3 weeks.

Alabama will also play in the Chick-fil-a Kickoff game in 2014 against an unnamed opponent.
