BULLDOG BEAT: Dawgs travel to Boulder for the first time

Sometimes, when things aren’t going well, the best thing to do is get away- far away. And that is exactly what Georgia is doing this week, as the team has traveled to Boulder, Colo. for a game with the host Buffaloes.

Several thousands of Bulldog fans have made the trip and will provide support for their struggling team. With head coach Mark Richt feeling the heat and the losses mounting, Georgia badly needs a victory.

But beating Colorado will not come easy, as the school has organized a Blackout (sound familiar?) and will honor their 1990 national championship team during the game. The Buffaloes are 2-1, but got manhandled on the road at California in week 2.

-At quarterback, Colorado will start junior Tyler Hansen. Hansen is 54-for-85 on the season with four touchdowns and four interceptions. Their leading rusher is Rodney Stewart, who has run for 253 yards on 67 carries.

-Georgia’s offense may want to try to convert first downs early in the series’ as CU sports the nation’s best third- and fourth-down efficiency defense.

-The Buffaloes will wear all-black tonight. They are 21-18-1 all time in that combination, which debuted in 1987 with a 24-7 loss to Nebraska.

-The two teams have played only once before, a 14-13 Georgia win in 2006. Colorado has hosted just one other SEC team; LSU in 1979, a 44-0 loss for the Buffs.

BATTLE OF THE MASCOTS

UGA and CU boast some of the most recognizable and distinguished mascots in the world of college athletics. Uga has graced the cover of Sports Illustrated and has starred in a major motion picture while Ralphie the Buffalo is unique, to say the least. Ralphies, which are always female, rarely travel to road games or bowl games, but made a special appearance at the Georgia game in 2006. The current mascot is the fifth Ralphie to grace the Boulder sideline.

COACHING MATCHUP

Richt is in his 10th year at Georgia and carries a record of 91-30, with two SEC titles and six top 10 finishes. However, his teams are 8-8 over the past two seasons and have not been to the SEC title game since 2005.

Hawkins has been at Colorado for five years and has a record of 18-34. For his career, Hawkins is 74-45 at Boise St and Colorado.
