Bucs pick up program’s first win over NCC, 34-31

The football team picked up its first-ever victory against North Cobb Christian by a score of 34-31. The Bucs jumped out to a 20-7 halftime lead behind the running of C.J. Best, who finished the game with 120 yards and scored three touchdowns. The Bucs were able to recover an onside kick to preserve the win. “We got lucky there at the end,” said head coach Gary Varner. … The softball team is now 4-0 in the region. Caitlin O’Shea pitched a shutout as the Lady Bucs beat Paulding County 8-0. The team hosts North Paulding on Wednesday and travels to South Paulding on Thursday. … The cross country teams ran at the LaGrange Invitational last week. Natali Backshaw was the top runner for the girls, finishing second with a time of 24:24. Corbin Williams led the boys team with a time of 19:55 and also came in second. … The volleyball team picked up two region victories, as they topped South Paulding and Hiram on Sept. 16. The team will play in the Cobb County Tournament at Marietta on Thursday.
