Bucs fall in program’s first game

Head coach Gary Varner and the Buccaneers football program played its first-ever game last Friday against South Paulding, a 51-0 home loss. The team was able to hold the Spartans to just seven first-quarter points, but gave up four touchdowns in the second quarter. Varner attributed the team’s decline in play to fatigue and lack of depth. South Paulding running back Jared Jeter led the way for the Spartans, as the Bucs were unable to stop him in a 158 all-purpose yard performance. Jeter also scored four touchdowns in the contest. Allatoona’s next game is this Friday against Class 2A Chattooga, also at home. … The softball team challenged itself early on this season with six games in the Home America Invitational, playing three at Collins Hill on Aug. 21 and 22, and three at North Gwinnett on Aug. 23. The team picked up one win at the Invitational, a 12-8 victory against Milton on Aug. 22. Last Thursday, coach Troy Pirkle’s squad picked up a 4-2 region victory over Woodland-Bartow. … The volleyball team will host Woodland-Bartow and North Cobb Christian at home on Thursday.
