Last Friday, football fans were treated with a highly anticipated matchup between the Lions and the North Cobb Warriors. Each team finished with undefeated regular-season records of 10-0 in 2007, the only teams in Class 5A to do so. Trailing 14-0 in the first quarter, M.L. King rallied with two touchdown runs by Mack Brown (five yards and 11 yards out). Brown then scored on a 33-yard run in the third quarter to knot the score at 21-21. But it was North Cobb’s Stephen Petillo kicking a 22-yard field goal through the uprights as time expired, giving the Warriors a 24-21 victory. M.L. King head coach Corey Jarvis stated afterwards, “We need to improve on our red zone offense.” The Lions (1-1) face McNair on Friday at 7:30 p.m. … This was a tough week for the softball and volleyball teams as well. The softball team was defeated by Luella 15-0, while the volleyball team dropped matches to Northside-Warner Robins and Warner Robins. The softball team will try to rebound on Thursday as the Lions hit the road to face Greenbrier.
