Brookwood Star DB Julian Elzey Has Become A Coveted Prospect

What a spring it has been for Brookwood standout safety Julian Elzey. I highlighted Elzey back in January when he had single-digit offers, and now he is in the double digits. Late January was a hot period for Elzey as he picked up offers from Western Kentucky, East Carolina, FIU, Wake Forest, Miami (OH), Georgia Southern, Liberty, and UNC Charlotte.

Elzey has now become a hot name in recruiting and is becoming a known name nationally. Elzey is now on the SEC radar, picking up offers from Florida and Georgia in April.

“I am truly blessed for the recent SEC offers,” Elzey said. “They are both high on my recruiting radar now, they both have great facilities and coaching staff, and great vibes as well. I know my recruitment is taking off, so I’m focused on working on my craft as I know more coaches will continue to watch me.”

Elzey, who also received high praise from his head coach Chad Nighbert and made a position change mid-season during his sophomore year. He talked about the position move and how it has made his game better.

“I was moved to safety mid-season last year, and I’ve been excelling at the position greatly since then. I plan to continue growing at the position and making plays all season. This will show that I can play anywhere in the DB area, from safety to nickel and corner. I’m more than prepared for the challenge,” he said. “I think I demonstrated that last season.”

Elzey certainly excelled and finished with 71 tackles, four passes defended, three tackles for loss, and a blocked punt. He had three games with 10 or more tackles this season. He was named all-region honorable mention this past season.

He is a fun prospect to watch because of his versatility. In Week 1 in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic against Walton, he played cornerback but now has switched to safety. His ability to lurk and move around allows him to be one of the best playmakers on the defensive side of the ball the state has to offer. I’ve seen him a few times in person, and I have always been impressed with his ability to break on the ball and tackle in open space. Elzey is one of the strong reasons that Brookwood will be dangerous on the backend, along with their strong defensive backroom.

Catch Elzey in action this spring as practice begins in two weeks. Brookwood will open spring practice on April 28th and will conclude with a spring game on May 15th
