Roswell head football coach Chris Prewett has announced that he is leaving the program to become the next head football coach at Dalton High School. Prewett announced the decision on Friday morning via his ‘X’ account after five years as the head coach and eight years with the school.
In his tweet, Prewett attributed the success he has had at Roswell High School to the admin and his players that have helped make the program special over the years.
“Roswell is a special place, and I know it will be in good hands for the future,” Prewett posted on social media. “Thank you for allowing my family and I to get accepted and brought into the family.”
Prewett has held the title of head coach of the Hornets for the last five seasons and held an impressive 50-13 record with the program. After taking over for Matt Kemper in 2020, Prewett has helped Roswell reach the playoffs in every season he was at the helm.
Prewett and the Hornets made the quarterfinals twice during his stint (2021 and 2023) and made the semifinals in 2022 before losing by a touchdown at home to Gainesville, 35-28.
The Hornets were able to record three double-digit win seasons during the Prewett-era, most notably with 12 wins during the 2022 season.
With Roswell, Pruitt won two regional titles (2022 and 2023) and looks to bring the Catamounts their first since 2016.
This season, the Hornets went 9-3 before losing on the road to state champion runner-up Hughes in the second round of the Class 5A state championships, 31-21.
Prewett takes over for former Dalton head coach Kit Carpenter after he was with the school for four seasons. The Catamounts had a winless 2024 with an 0-10 record, not making the playoffs for the first time since 2021. The former Roswell head coach takes over a program that hasn’t been to the state championship since 2001 and will try to win the team’s first title since 1967.
Roswell has not named a new head coach at this time.
