Breaking: Linebacker Ashton Moore Will No Longer Play With Alpharetta

Ashton Moore is no longer with the Alpharetta Raiders, per sources close to the team.

Moore is a versatile linebacker who can play sideline to sideline, play in the box, or play in coverage. He is very disruptive and makes a lot of plays on the defensive side of the ball. A thing of note will be the position his next coach plays him, because there has been some interest in him playing safety at the next level. When last seen at Georgia Tech’s Brent Key / Corky Kell + Dave Hunter 7 on 7, he was playing slot corner and a little bit of safety for the Raiders. Throughout the 7 on 7, he was making his presence felt and constantly making plays on defense.

In terms of what is next for Moore, he and his family will weigh their options and take a few weeks before coming to a decision about where he will play next. A decision is expected to be announced in July. Moore is initially a Mississippi native, so it could come down to a decision between both states about where he will finish his prep career.

According to On3, Moore is rated as a three-star, the No. 43 linebacker, and the No. 48 player in the peach state. He finished his sophomore season with 87 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, and nine sacks. He was a second-team all-region selection by Georgia High School Football Daily.

Moore holds double-digit offers notably from Mississippi State, Texas, UCF, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Missouri, and many others. He has continued to climb up the recruiting ranks and has other major P4 schools interested in his services. Wake Forest, Missouri, Texas A&M, Miami (OH), Florida, Pittsburgh, and Vanderbilt all reached out when the contact period opened for the rising junior class.

It has been a tough off season for Alpharetta in terms of losing some of their talent after star quarterback DJ Bordeaux transferred to Douglas County and Georgia commit Ethan Barbour transferred to Milton. The Raiders will be featured in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic on Saturday, August 17th against Houston County.
