BREAKING NEWS — Chamblee Hires Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed As Offensive Coordinator

Chamblee has had a blazing start to the offseason bringing in two former NFL greats in Jamal Lewis and Ed Reed to be a part of its 2025 staff. Chamblee is coming off a 2-8 record in 2024 to give the Bulldogs their second-consecutive losing season. Ed Reed will certainly bring a different level of expertise to the group in 2025. Reed also has some coaching experience and was the head coach of HBCU Bethune-Cookman from 2022-2023.

Reed is a former American football safety who played in the National Football League for 12 seasons and is widely considered to be one of the greatest safeties in NFL history. Head coach Bob Swank has more on the hire.

“We are really excited to have Ed Reed joining our coaching staff. Ed worked with us in an unofficial capacity two years ago. Ed is a football legend but it doesn’t take too long to find out that Ed is a football expert of the highest magnitude. It will be a great experience for the Chamblee high school players and coaches alike,” said Swank.

He was born in St. Rose, Louisiana, and played college football at the University of Miami. During his career at Miami, he was named First-Team All-American, National Defensive Player of the Year, was a Jim Thorpe Award Finalist, unanimous First-Team All-Big East, along with many other accolades. That led him to be drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft.

There, he would go on to become a legend in the sport.

He was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2004. He was a five-time Pro Bowl selection, a nine-time All-Pro selection, and the 2004 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He finished his professional career with 644 tackles, 140 passes defended, 64 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, and six interceptions.

He was known for his instincts, athleticism, and playmaking ability. He was masterful in disguising coverage with some of the best in the sport and even fooled NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning a few times throughout their legendary battles on the gridiron.

Reed was an integral piece of the Ravens’ Super Bowl XXXV team and intercepted two passes in the Ravens’ 34-7 victory over the New York Giants. He retired from the NFL after the 2013 season. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.

He now brings his playing and coaching pedigree to Chamblee, a program looking to turn things around. Reed joins former Baltimore Ravens teammate, Jamal Lewis, who also was pivotal in bringing the Ravens their first Super Bowl victory. Chamblee last had a winning record in 2021 when it went 9-1 but haven’t won a region championship since 1982 and are still in search of the Bulldogs’ first-ever state championship.

Chamblee is establishing itself as a program to watch in 2025 after hiring Lewis as their recruiting coordinator and Reed as their offensive coordinator.
