Boys Pre-Region Tournament Basketball Rankings

In Class 7A, No. 1 ranked Pebblebrook improved to 21-2, picked up its 14th-straight victory and improved to 8-0 in Region 2. The Falcons will close out the regular season at home Wednesday night against Habersham Central in a non-region matchup. No. 2 Newton defeated No. 8 Grayson twice last week—including a narrow 70-68 win on Saturday. Milton remains at No. 3 and No. 4 Berkmar is riding a 10-game win-streak. No. 5 North Gwinnett has won 16-straight and the Bulldogs’ only two in-state losses came to No. 1 Pebblebrook and No. 7 McEachern. Grayson dropped to No. 8 after its losses to Newton and No. 9 Archer will travel to No. 4 Berkmar on Thursday for a Region 7 showdown. Etowah caps the Class 7A poll at No. 10.

Class 6A saw No. 1 ranked Wheeler close out a 69-67 overtime home victory over No. 4 Osborne on Friday. Westlake rose to No. 2 and Alexander rose to No. 3 following Shiloh’s 4-game losing streak the sent the Generals down to No. 5. Shiloh is positioned above No. 6 Buford in the poll as a result of their 53-43 win over the Wolves on Jan. 18 and these two teams will face again this Friday. Centennial avenged a previous loss to River Ridge and returned to the poll at No. 9 ahead of River Ridge at No. 10.  Class 5A is deep with teams that are capable of shaking up the polls in the weeks ahead and the region tournaments should be especially competitive. Tri-Cities moved up a spot to No. 3 and Chapel Hill improved to No. 4 following Jonesboro’s drop to No. 5. Additionally, Calhoun improved from No. 10 to No. 7.

In Class 4A, No. 1 McDonough carries a 17-game winning streak and No. 2 Monroe carries a 16-game winning streak that includes a 60-59 win over No. 3 Westover last week. No. 4 Spencer has won 20-straight games—including a 67-63 victory over LaGrange this Tuesday. North Oconee moved up from No. 10 to No. 9 and Marist replaced Bainbridge at No. 10. Salem shifted up one spot to No. 5 in Class 3A and Putnam County debuted at No. 9 in Class 2A. In Class A Private, Darlington made a massive leap from No. 9 to No. 4 and Warren County moved up one slot to No. 7 in Class A Public and Towns County and Chattahoochee County replaced Portal and Mitchell County.
