Bogosian signs; TV schedule released

In what was becoming a highly anticipated move, the Thrashers finally came to an agreement with 2008 first-round draft pick Zach Bogosian. The defenseman, selected third overall by the Thrashers, is now officially eligible to take part in all of the team’s activities, including the Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, along with the team’s training camp, which begins in a week and a half. Over the summer, Bogosian has been training in various capacities in a Thrashers uniform and outside of it. Last month, Bogosian attended the U.S. Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., scoring two assists in four games.

DATES TO REMEMBER

Atlanta announced multiple dates regarding the schedule of the team’s upcoming preseason:

Saturday, Sept. 13: The team’s prospects participate in their first game of the Traverse City Prospect Evaluation Tournament. The tournament will be played in Traverse City, Mich., and will conclude for the Thrashers on Sept. 17. The team will play Tampa Bay, the N.Y. Rangers, Detroit and one other team yet to be determined during their five-day stay in Michigan.

Friday, Sept. 19: Selected prospects, along with players already signed with the team, will report to Duluth for physicals prior to the beginning of training camp. The following day the team will begin on-ice workouts as training camp begins.

Thursday, Sept. 25: Atlanta will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take on the Predators for the first exhibition game of the 2008 preseason. The team will follow that with road games at St. Louis and Detroit, before coming home to play the same three teams again.

Friday, Oct. 10: The Washington Capitals come to Blueland for the season opener for both teams. The Thrashers welcome the newly crowned Hart Trophy winner Alexander Ovechkin and the rest of the Southeast champions.

TV SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The Thrashers recently released the local television schedule for the team featuring 61 of the team’s 80 games not already chosen for national television. Two of the team’s games—Oct. 28 vs. Philadelphia and March 16 vs. Washington—were already chosen as a part of VERSUS’ “Game of the Week.”

The schedule features 28 home games and 33 road affairs, broadcasted locally on SportSouth. The broadcast season begins with the team’s opening game at home against Washington on Oct. 10. It also features both contests against the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings, and four against the Eastern Conference Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

With the change in the NHL’s scheduling policy, SportSouth will be able to broadcast more contests versus out-of-conference opponents. The schedule also features much of the same from last year, as 19 of the team’s televised games will be against teams from the Southeast Division. All of the broadcasted games can be found on the team’s website at atlantathrashers.com.
