BIRDS BLOG: Falcons lead at the break

This is the offense that we expected to see.

In the first half of the Falcons-Panthers contest, Matt Ryan threw three touchdown passes to have the bird up 21-13. The offense scored on the last three series of the half and all of Ryan’s touchdown passes went to different receivers (Tony Gonzalez, Jason Selling and Roddy White).

But don’t count out the Panthers yet as they have been able to make plays on offense. Jake Delhomme has thrown for over 124 yards and 88 of those yards have gone to Steve Smith. The running game is looking strong for the Panthers as DeAngelo Williams has 68 rushing yards on 11 carries and one touchdown.

The Falcons running game has been solid as Michael Turner and Jason Snelling have a combined 65 rushing yards in the first half. Jerious Norwood left the game early with a head injury and will not return to the game.

Defensively, the Falcons are led by Curtis Lofton who had six tackles. Stephen Nicholas is right behind him with four tackles and one sack.
