Benedictine quarterback Stephen Cannon has announced his future plans as the 3-star signal caller commits to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback is the ninth commitment in the Class of 2026 for the Red Raiders and is the second offensive player in the defense-heavy class for Texas Tech in 2025.
According to 247Sports, Cannon is rated as a top-100 player in the state of Georgia in the Class of 2026.
Cannon appeared in five games last season before a shoulder injury against Ware County ended his junior season at the midway point of the Cadets’ schedule.
After starting the season 0-2 with losses to Rabun Gap and Buford, Cannon helped lead Benedictine to three-straight victories including wins over Burke County, Westminster and Warner Robins before his injury to his shoulder against Ware County that ended his season.
In his five games that he saw action in this season, Cannon’s stats included 1,352 passing yards on a 58% completion percentage on the season. Cannon also threw for 11 touchdowns and threw for 193 yards per game during his junior season. The quarterback also made himself effective on the ground, compiling three touchdowns and averaging almost four yards per carry with 147 yards rushing on the season.
Last season was Cannon’s second season on the varsity roster and the first as the Benedictine starting quarterback.
The Cadets are projected to be one of the top teams in Class 4A coming into football season in the fall. Despite the loss of Miami-commit edge rusher Herbert Scroggins, Benedictine has reloaded and will be a force to compete with for the 2025 season.
Benedictine brings in one of the top recruits in the Class of 2027 in LaDamion Guyton as he is rated as the No. 1-overall recruit on 247Sports in his recruiting class as he transferred to the Cadets from Savannah Christian during the offseason.
Cannon will get back one of the Cadets’ more reliable targets for 2025 as 4-star wideout Bubba Frazier returns to the team for his senior season, holding offers from places such as Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Auburn along with a handful of others.
Cannon and the Cadets will be back in action next season as the senior quarterback looks to lead a talented Benedictine team back to the forefront of Class 4A as they will be one of the preseason favorites in the classification.
