Nelson Douglas hit a grand slam for the Wildcats in Game 1 to back the pitching of Hunter Davis. In the clincher, Westminster scored three runs in the top of the first inning before Westside-Augusta answered for two right away in the bottom of the first and still had the bases loaded with nobody out. Conrad Cornell got out of the jam with no more damage, however, and pitched scoreless ball the rest of the way. … Despite the Wildcats’ win, there will be no rematch of the 2013 state championship series between Region 6 rivals. That’s because Lovett got swept by host Benedictine via 4-3 and 6-1 decisions. Benedictine forced extra innings in the opener with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and from there the team never looked back. … Wesleyan at Cook and Greater Atlanta Christian at Berrien are both headed for decisive contests on Wednesday. … Blessed Trinity is the only Class AAA team safely through the quarterfinals unscathed. The Titans scored twin 3-2 victories over visiting Central-Carroll. … One semifinal series already booked in Class AAAA is Carrollton vs. Veterans. Carrollton held off visiting Statesboro 5-2 and 7-3, while Veterans came out on top of a low-scoring affair with Lanier by winning 3-2 and 5-0. … In Class A-Public, No. 3 seed Charlton County went on the road to finish off second-seeded Emanuel County Institute 5-0 in Game 3 on Tuesday. Charlton County will host Gordon Lee in the championship series.
