BASEBALL BLOG: Dunwoody extends win-streak to 15 after losing first game of the season

The Dunwoody Wildcats baseball program is off to a hot start in 2025 after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs a year ago.

Led by head coach Kyle Smith who enters his second season leading the Dunwoody baseball program, the Wildcats are off to a blistering 15-1 start in 2025 and look to keep making noise throughout the season.

A year ago, the Wildcats finished 19-13 as well as 12-5 in Region 4-6A and were defeated in the first round of the postseason after being swept by Tift County in a double-header, losing 4-3 and 10-3 to end their season.

Fast forward to this season, ever since losing its first game of the season, Dunwoody has won 15-straight games and haven’t lost since the beginning of February.

The Wildcats are four games away from eclipsing their 19-game win mark from a season ago, with 14 games left in their regular season schedule.

Dunwoody returns nine positional starters from last year’s team including a handful of commitments.

The senior trio of RHP Matt Pearch, RHP Grayson Zinkand and SS Zach Paulling all have decisions made on where they will continue their baseball careers next season. Pearch is committed to Yale, Zinkand to Sewanee and Paulling committed to Georgia College & State University.

Pearch and Zinkand are a part of a dangerous Dunwoody rotation that have been problems for opposing hitters to handle.

Along with the two commits, senior RHP Ryan Davies is another name to watch in the bullpen for the Wildcats along with sophomore LHP Spencer Leftoff to add some youth to an experienced rotation.

In the infield, Paulling and first basemen John Kosobud each had over a .330 batting average a season ago as juniors and will be looked to throughout the season to provide some offense for the Wildcats along with second basemen Caleb Hamilton to round out the experienced infield. Behind the plate, catcher Michael Gregozeski will have a larger role this season, moving into the starting catcher role.

The Wildcats are experienced heading into 2025 and it is no exception in their outfield, led by junior Alec Koehly, who provides a strong bat at the plate and can provide some needed offense for Dunwoody.

Dunwoody is coming off a 10-0 victory over Lakeside-DeKalb as the Wildcats will finish out their series against the Vikings before a three-game series against Woodward Academy next week.
