Barker gets first win, Hornets host Pope this Friday

In its 30-7 victory over the Knights, Barker’s team showed all the traits he feels are necessary for them to become a championship contender. The running game was a force to be reckoned with, as Reid Suhr went for 174 yards on 27 carries and scored three touchdowns. The defense was suffocating, especially in the second half, allowing only one yard for the Knights in a third quarter that saw the Hornets put up 17 points in the same span. On Friday the Hornets host Pope. … It was another perfect week for the softball team, as the Lady Hornets went 2-0 in wins over Wheeler and Pope, moving the team to 2-0 in regional play. On Wednesday, the bats were out in a big way, as Sidney Vlass, Mekenzie Weems and Erin Vickery each had three hits apiece in a 13-1 blowout victory. The following night the pitching did the work as Vlass again dominated, this time from within the circle, as she struck out 10 in a 4-1 victory.
