The Brookwood Broncos are on a roll. The Broncos have started the season 9-0, a win total that would be enough to make the playoffs in many regions, and a majority of the success is because of standout goalkeeper Bailee Glauss.
She has been nothing short of dominant this season. And it’s not as if she’s faced weak competition, Brookwood has played strong programs like Starr’s Mill, Denmark, St. Pius X, and Cherokee Bluff, as well as teams like Jackson County, Duluth, and Mountain View, all of whom have had strong starts to the season. Through it all, Glauss has conceded just one goal while recording eight shutouts.
The Broncos’ offense has been just as impressive, scoring at least five goals in seven of their nine games and at least three in every match. They are led by two prolific goal-scorers, both averaging more than a goal per game. Senior Hayden Barnett is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 2.2 goals per game, while also contributing more than an assist per game. Sophomore Skylar Schroder has also been a force, averaging 1.5 goals per game. Senior Maddie Allen can sometimes be overlooked at times on this high-powered offense, but she has been extremely productive. While she averages 0.8 goals per game, she contributes over 1.5 assists per match, playing a key role in the team’s attacking success.
Brookwood is on a quest for its first state title since sharing the 2003 5A championship with rival Parkview. However, the road to the title will not be easy. The Broncos will have to battle through multiple top-tier programs, with the toughest challenge coming from West Forsyth. The Wolverines have won three of the past four titles in the highest classification and currently sit at 8-0, ranked No. 2 in the country by MaxPreps.
