Monroe Area quarterback Stanton Truitt will be back behind center for Friday’s home game against Eastside. Truitt and six others (as well as some Madison County players) were suspended by the GHSA for one game for fighting.
“It was just some pushing and shoving. It only lasted about 15 seconds,” said Monroe Area head coach Matt Fligg of the incident.
In Truitt’s absence, the Purple Hurricanes overcame Chestatee last week 28-21 despite trailing 21-14 at the half to a solid War Eagles team that had won seven straight games. Kwan Brooks scored with nine minutes left to give Monroe Area the lead. Michael Gallup played some at quarterback out of the Wildcat formation for the Purple Hurricanes and ran for a touchdown and passed for another. Jacob Olson also played at quarterback for Fligg’s team and passed for one score.
Monroe Area, ranked No. 3 in Class AAAA, clinched the Region 8 title with the win.
