The Atlanta Falcons Coach of the Week program recognizes high school football coaches across the state of Georgia for their hard work and dedication to making a difference in student-athletes’ lives on and off the field. Parkview head coach Eric Godfree is the third winner of the 2018 season and his Panthers have opened up the year with a trio of impressive victories and are currently ranked No. 4 in the Class AAAAAAA poll.
Godfree, a 1994 Parkview grad, took over the esteemed program in 2014 following the team’s disappointing 3-7 finish. Since his arrival, the Panthers have improved their record in each of the past four seasons, including a 9-4 finish in 2017 and trip to the quarterfinals. This year’s team scored a 42-6 victory over Mountain View to open the season and then defeated South Georgia powerhouses Lowndes 39-27 and Tift County 31-28 to improve to 3-0.
“It’s been a great honor to be at Parkview,” said Godfree. “We are so strong academically and athletically in all of our sports. It’s just a great school with a great culture in general. So that part has been a big honor and it has been very rewarding for us to get to the point we have in football and the success we have had the last couple years.”
Junior quarterback Jordan Williams has been a huge part of this year’s success and he is 40-56 passing (71.4%) for 584 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. Leading the ground game has been sophomore Cody Brown, who has taken 48 carries for 315 yards (105 yards per game) and five touchdowns. Defensively, junior Kobe Wilson has tallied 37 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, two fumble recoveries and one fumble recovery touchdown these first three games and has won Gwinnett County Defensive Player of the Week twice.
Parkview hosts Milton this Friday and will open up region play the following week at home against Norcross.
“Coach Godfree is a living example of being a servant leader,” said Parkview offensive line coach Nick Johnson. “He leads by example and he works as hard as anyone else with a smile on his face and his biggest impact is in the community.”
Each week, one coach will be selected to be the Atlanta Falcons Coach of the Week based on his commitment to his team, community and player safety. The winning coach will receive a $1,000 equipment grant, a commemorative football and tickets to an Atlanta Falcons home game.
