Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson was arrested and jailed in Atlanta early Sunday morning on a felony possession-of-cocaine charge and misdemeanor possession-of-marijuana charge.
Anderson was arrested at the Peachtree Tavern in Buckhead, with police finding a 1-inch square bag of cocaine and a suspected marijuana cigarette. Another man, Mark Hudson, accompanying Anderson was also arrested.
According to a police spokesman, a nightclub patron alerted an off-duty police officer to possible drug use in the club’s restroom, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
“The patron had heard what he thought was sniffing from inside the stall and told the off-duty officer,” police spokesman Otis Redmond said. “The officer went into the restroom, heard the same sniffing and peered over the stall door. He saw Jamal Anderson and Mark Hudson sniffing two lines of powdered cocaine off the back of the toilet.”
UPDATE (02/09): Anderson was released on $6,000 bond shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday night. He was originally expected to appear in court Monday morning but is no longer scheduled to do so.
Anderson spent eight seasons with the Falcons and helped lead the team to its only Super Bowl appearance in 1999, losing to the Denver Broncos. He made his only Pro Bowl appearance that season after rushing for 1,846 yards and setting an NFL record for 410 carries.
