92.9 The Game returns to the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic in 2024 as the event’s official radio affiliate. 92.9 is heading into its second decade covering the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic, a partnership that has helped spotlight Georgia high school football along with the coaches, players, and fans that make it all possible.
“It’s a huge event for us on a number of different levels,” said 92.9 brand manager Mike Conti. “First off, it helps to kick off our coverage of the high school football season. I like that we get to do a big event with a lot of big games, where we get to launch our 20 weeks of high school football coverage that goes all the way through the state finals. We are very proud of the job we do on Friday nights in partnership with Score Atlanta to keep our listeners informed of everything going on in high school football all across the state. To be able to start that with the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic, a big event that our listeners look forward to, is really ideal.”
92.9 The Game will cover five of the 11 games of the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic, starting Wednesday with the nightcap of Kell vs. North Atlanta, two teams coming off strong seasons with both expected to be contenders for region and state titles in the upcoming season.
On Thursday, the 92.9 crew will head to West Forsyth to cover the game between the host Wolverines, a perennial playoff team in the state’s highest classification, and the two time defending Class A Division I champions, Prince Avenue Christian. On Friday, the radio station will feature one of the biggest matchups of the weekend as defending 5A runner-up Creekside takes on 5A power Rome, which made the 6A quarterfinals in 2023.
Following the Falcons’ preseason game on Saturday, the station will begin their coverage with the McEachern vs. North Gwinnett game, A matchup showcasing two programs that are looking to build on strong 2023 seasons.
They will continue coverage with the nightcap showdown, featuring defending 3A state champions Cedar Grove, who have won five of the last eight 3A titles, facing Douglas County. Douglas County is coming off its best season since the 1964 team that went 13-0-1 and won the 2A state championship. Following its 13-1 2023 season, where Douglas County made the 6A semifinals, the Tigers will be one of the favorites to win the state championship in the highest classification this coming season.
”Our relationship with 92.9 The Game is a long and strong one and the fact that we will have them broadcasting games all four night games in addition to a couple of other earlier games is big for the Classic,” said Score Atlanta president I.J. Rosenberg, executive director of the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic. “They do such a complete job with the talent in both the booth and on the field and a lot of people like to listen to high school football on the radio. They also will do a good job of promoting the event and the teams, players and coaches in it for a few weeks before the games take place. We are lucky to have 92.9 The Game as they dominate the Atlanta sports radio market. It is like having a relationship with WSB-TV in the golden days of television.”
