2019 Final Baseball Rankings

In Class AAAAAAA, No. 1 Parkview improved to 8-8 in all-time final appearances with a championship sweep over Hillgrove to secure this year’s top spot. First-time state champion Heritage-Conyers is No. 1 in Class AAAAAA after defeated two-time defending champion Pope.

Loganville comes in at the top of Class AAAAA following the Red Devils finals sweep over Ola to claim the school’s third consecutive state title. The Ola Mustangs sit at the two-spot, in large part to their stellar run through the postseason. Their finals appearance came in large part to two upsets over the Buford Wolves in the quarterfinals and the Decatur Bulldogs in the semis. Buford failed to advance past the quarterfinals after facing off against runner-up Ola, landing the Wolves at the three spot. Starr’s Mill was previously ranked inside the top three, but now lands at the six-spot. The Panthers’ postseason run was cut short following two losses from Locust Grove in the second round, giving Starr’s Mill a 29-6 record on the season.

In Class AAAA, state champion Northside-Columbus leads the poll over runner-up Denmark. Pike County closed its season on top after a two-game sweep of Pace Academy in the AAA title game in Macon. The Pirates defeated Pace 7-4 and 5-4 to secure its first-ever baseball title. Pace finishes its season ranked second.

Coming in at the top of Class AA are the Jeff Davis Yellowjackets, whose finals performance against Rockmart earned the program its second state title in school history. The Bleckley County Royals headed into the postseason sitting outside of the top-ten teams. While the team didn’t walk away with the title, the Royals advanced into the semifinals where they managed to force a game three against future-champs Jeff Davis. Another team that exceeded expectations was Callaway. The Cavaliers ended their season with a 25-14 record, and advanced all the way into the semifinals where they forced Class AA runner-up Rockmart into a deciding game after a game 1 victory. This finish proves enough to land Callaway at the six spot.

Tattnall Square entered the postseason as the top-ranked team in Class A-Private, and did not disappoint with a sweep over Savannah Christian in the finals. The Hebron Christian Lions exceed all expectations during their finals run, besting Lakeview Academy and Calvary Day as they advanced into the semifinals. There the Lions fell to the future champs, but their strong finish earns them the three spot. The Wesleyan Wolves come in at the five-spot, ending their season with a 27-9 record. Wesleyan advanced into the semifinals where the Wolves had a commanding 14-2 victory over Savannah Christian, but dropped the next two games to keep them out of the finals.

Gordon Lee solidified its spot at the top of Class A-Public after the Trojans defended their state title with a victory over Schley County (2, 2, 9 – 0, 3, 2). Gordon Lee ends its season with a 32-5 record, and will return the majority of its players in the 2019-20 season. Schley County was unable to dethrone the Trojans, but the Wildcats’ finish does earn them the number two spot in the class. With only five seniors on the roster, the Wildcats will return next year with some familiar faces as they try to deny Gordon Lee of its threepeat. The Bowdon Red Devils were previously outside the top-ten teams heading into the postseason, but put together an outing good enough to land them at the five-spot. The Red Devils knocked off Baconton and Clinch County en route to the semifinals where they fell to future champs Gordon Lee.
