There is just one week of the baseball regular season left and the playoff seeding will be finalized throughout the next week as some of the region front-runners stand just a win away from securing the top seed. At the top of the poll, No. 1 ranked Lanier County has a double-header on Friday against Clinch County and then a three-game slate with Brooks County next week. If Lanier County can win out, then the Bulldogs can secure the crown due to its head-to-head wins over Charlton County and Irwin County. All three of these teams have just two region losses in Region 2. Charlton County and Irwin County, however, will be facing off next week on Tuesday and then Friday for a double-header. If Brooks County earns a win against Lanier County and either Irwin County or Charlton County sweeps in their head-to-head, then the team that sweeps would be able to surpass Lanier County.
At No. 2 in the poll, Region 1 frontrunner Baconton Charter has won 14-straight games and is a perfect 15-0 in Region 1 with just four games remaining. A non-region game against ACE Charter will take place tonight and then next week, Baconton Charter has a pair of games against Early County and a trip to SGSTEMC. Baconton Charter has already clinched the region title.
No. 5 ranked Bowdon is the No. 1 seed out of Region 7 and has five games over the next week. The biggest matchup for the Red Devils will be on Saturday against No. 7 Crawford County—which has the busiest next week out of all the ranked teams with seven games over the next week. Crawford County has already secured the top seed out of Region 6 with its 9-0 record and like Bowdon will be using this busy stretch to prepare for the upcoming postseason. Crawford County will also have a top 10 showdown with No. 8 Wilcox County—which like Bowdon, Baconton Charter and Crawford County is unbeaten in its region (Region 4) with an 8-0 record.
At No. 9, Johnson County can clinch the Region 5 title next week when it will face GMC for a three-game stretch. Johnson County has a two game lead over GMC and can secure the region title with a series win. At No. 10, Taylor County has a critical game against Marion County on Friday. Marion County previously defeated Taylor County 7-3 on April 9 to challenge the Vikings in the region standings.
